“You may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile…you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?”
How did I get here? Great question! A long winding road but I’m so grateful I took it!
Part of that road was becoming a CPA. What does CPA stand for?
Cheapest Person Alive?
Counting Pennies Always?
I’ve heard them all!
It’s actually Certified Public Accountant!
There are lots of rules for CPAs and we’re held to high standards. We are dealing with money and finances and all those things!
One requirement is the 40 hours EVERY year of continuing education. There are lots of rules around what type of CPE we can have.
For instance, we can’t have more than 8 hours of professional development each year.
Self-study can only make up 20 hours (or 50%) of the 40.
There is a 10-hour cap on the number of hours we can earn in a day (thank goodness)!
We are (in SC) required to obtain 6 hours of ethics within a 3 year period and at least 2 of the hours must be in SC Rules & Regulations.
I could go on and on but I’m guessing you don’t want me to!
The GOOD NEWS? I’ve finished mine for the year! All those pieces of paper you see represent 1 hour (maybe 1.5).
Getting my CPE each year is like being pecked to death by chickens. I do it 1 hour or 1.5 hours at a time.
As a mom of 3 girls, that’s what fits into my schedule. It’s tedious. It’s constant. It’s a lot of paperwork and tracking. But I do it.
I do it because I LOVE what I do and this is part of it.
What hoops do you have to jump through to hold your position or job? I’d love to hear it!
As a CPA, I love helping business owners grow and improve their businesses! Check out my bio for more information and the “magic” I bring to the world!
