Happy 2017! Our country will be ringing in the New Year with a new President and there’s a lot of uncertainty and nervousness surrounding this event. In light of that, I thought discussing ethics would be applicable! No matter how you feel about politics or what’s going on with our country, one thing cannot be denied. Doing the right thing is always right AND always good business.
The accounting profession talks often about ethics but it’s an issue everyone deals with. Our ethics are shaped by our parents/family, church, community, school…these are some of the areas where we learn right from wrong. The decisions you make and actions you take reflect your own moral code. Don’t worry, I’m not going to sit here and lecture on ethics! I just want to mention it for us to keep in mind this year…and the next three.
Ethics is a slippery slope…where is the line drawn? Unethical behavior can lead to embarrassment, penalties and fees, as well as jail time! Charleston is a small town and a good reputation is crucial. Not to mention it will help you sleep at night!
So let the world turn and do as it may. Let’s all decide, as business owners and as United States citizens, to do our part to do the right thing and it will always be good for business!
Sincerely,
Jordan Ilderton, CPA
