“All by myself. Don’t wanna be all by myself. Anymore.” -Celine Dion
Yay you started your own business! If you are a single member LLC you may be the boss, the employee, head of HR, the advertising department, the IT department…etc…you get the picture. It can be an exciting time but lonely. Then throw in COVID and the coffee meetings and face-to-face time has really gone down.
It’s important as a business owner to think of building a community and not just a business. This can be easier said than done but by having a ‘community mindset’ we can expand and not feel so isolated.
Even experts in their field need someone to bounce ideas off of, vent to, share success stories with, learn from, and listen to. Creating a village of like-minded people (even virtually) is a safe haven. Especially when your friends and family have no idea what your talking about!
How do we find our village? The internet is a great way to connect with people in our fields. Any training or class probably has an online presence and is a place to start connecting with people.
Think of people you know locally in your field. Maybe you don’t know them well now but try reaching out and see what happens. New connections and friendships can still be made despite and because of…COVID.
Have you heard of the Rising Tide Society? Check them out or other professional organizations in your field and see if that’s something that would interest you.
As you make connections, be sure to keep your circles positive and stay away from anyone wanting to bring you down. Put yourself out there and see what happens!
Your business, your professional development and your community can grow all at the same time.
